How to send a birthday email
A note on the day, from a date field on the contact. Set the trigger to the tag your import applies.
The workflow
When someone: Gets a tag
birthday-today
no campaign chosen yet
- 1Send email: no campaign chosen yet
- 2Exit flow
Before you start
The automation is trivial; getting the date is the work. You need a birthday on the contact and something that tags people whose birthday is today. Most senders collect the day and month only, which is both sufficient and considerably less personal data to hold.
You will need: a birthday field on your contacts, one campaign.
How to set it up
- 1Add a birthday field to your signup form or your import, storing day and month.
- 2Set up something that applies a "birthday today" tag each morning: a scheduled job against your contacts.
- 3Choose the Birthday template and trigger on that tag.
- 4Assign the campaign. Keep it short, and make any offer generous enough to feel like a gesture.
- 5Activate.
What goes wrong
- Collecting a full date of birth when you only need the day and month. It is more personal data to protect for no benefit.
- A birthday email that is purely a discount code. It reads as a transaction with a greeting attached, which is worse than not sending one.
This template is built in to Action BeeMail. Open Automations, choose Start from a template, and it is one click. Edit anything you like afterwards: a template is a starting point, not a mode.
