How to deliver a download automatically
Send the thing they signed up for immediately, then follow up two days later with what to do with it.

Before you start
Send the thing immediately. They are watching their inbox right now, and a delay here is the one place in email where a wait is actually felt. The second message, two days later, is where the value is: most people download a guide and never open it, so a follow-up that tells them which part to read first is worth more than the guide.
You will need: a list or tag for the signup, two campaigns.
How to set it up
- 1Point your signup form at a dedicated list for this download.
- 2Choose the Deliver a download template and trigger on that list.
- 3Assign the delivery campaign to the first send. Put the link in the email rather than only on a thank-you page, because people lose the tab.
- 4Assign the follow-up to the second send: what to do with it, or the one section worth reading.
- 5Activate.
What goes wrong
- Only putting the link on the redirect page. Half of them will close it, and you will get support emails.
- Using the same list for every lead magnet. You lose the ability to tell what somebody was interested in, which was the point of having a magnet.
