How to follow up based on what somebody clicked
Somebody clicked a particular link, so tag them and send the thing that matches. The cheapest segmentation there is.

Before you start
The cheapest segmentation there is. Somebody clicking a particular link has told you what they care about without filling in anything, which is better data than a preference centre because it is behaviour rather than intention. Tag it and send the matching thing.
You will need: the url to watch, one campaign.
How to set it up
- 1Pick one link worth watching: a pricing page, a specific product, a particular article.
- 2Choose the Follow up on an interest template and put that URL in the trigger.
- 3Rename the tag from "interested" to something specific, so you can still read your tag list in six months.
- 4Assign the follow-up campaign.
- 5Activate.
What goes wrong
- Following up within the hour. They clicked a link and are reading the page; an email about it arriving while they are still on it is uncomfortable. A day is right.
- Watching every link. You end up with forty tags that mean nothing. Watch the two or three that indicate buying intent.
